Recently On the Massively Minecraft Server, I have been testing the various speeds of certain things so I could compare them to real life events, and also for a deeper understanding on how Minecraft gravity works…

Human:

By testing on the height 10 blocks high, I could test the terminal velocity of my avatar to some degree of accuracy. I made a machine which would make 2 notes. 1 which would set of when I started falling, and 1 when I got to the bottom. using Audacity, I could then record the time is took to play sound a and b. All i had to do then was to do distance/time=speed. But before I do that, lets see the numbers.

Test 1 (wearing no armor):
0.835 seconds to fall

Test 2 (wearing no armor):
0.835 seconds to fall

Test 3 (wearing armor):
0.835 seconds to fall

(the fact all three numbers where the same shows the level of accuracy to this project)

So according to this, I am going 10 blocks / 0.835 seconds =
1000 blocks (1 km according to Notch) / 83.5 seconds =
193km (average to some extent terminal velocity per hour) / 16 115.5 seconds=
268.591667 hours compared to the average which only takes 1 hour to go that far…..
I fall slow…….

You might also be interested to know that blocks have weight…..just look at the data below…..

One Button- 1.09 seconds

64 Diamonds- 1.09 seconds (rounded from 1.091)
1 Diamond- 1.056 seconds

1 Redstone Torch- 0.998 seconds

Not only is this incredibly slow compared to your avatar, but it is incredibly different and diverse. sharing a stack of a object is faster than sharing 1! Mabye this is it….

Because it’s random….
if 1 stack falls faster, maybe its because it’s like 64 diamonds falling at random speeds, the fastest one sets of the note block first! We may never know…..
